&The key responsibilities for the position of lieutenant are to supervise subordinate employees and act as the on duty field commander during their tour of duty. A lieutenant also manages and supervises a work group of employees that genaerally consists of several sergeants, corporals and officers. By managing these work groups the lieutenant is responsible for ensuring that the chainm of command is informed of ongoings during their tour and pertinent information that may affect the operations of the department. A lieutenant also acts as a media relations officer by providing the media with statements in regards to recent crimes and/or other public service/safety items that the public may need to be made aware of.

A lieutenant is also called on to review internal packages and insure that policies and laws are followed by his subordinates. While acting as a lieutenant in FSB he will have the job of taking and referring complaints to PSD while they are closed.

A lieutenant may also be put in charge of projects on a regular basis. Parts of these projects usually require research, formulation of plans, manpower allocations, community involvement, costs, involvement of other agencies, implementatiton of the plan, and veview.

A lieutenant also needs to insure that the intergrity of the department is upheld. this is not only within his personal life but to act as a role model for his subordinates and others within the department. This position carries alot of responsibility and can have a great affect on the overall operation of the department. This is done by working with the community and interacting with them in the community. This is done by positive involvement. A good example of this is community meetings and projects within ther communtiy. Building partnerships also makes our job easier and allows us to plug into other resources within the community.
::&The first thing I would do to address this complaint is to isolate the specific problem and gather information about what is going on at this intersection and the surrounding area.

I would do this by collecting data pertinent to the number of accidents at this location and to similar intersections in the area. Once all the information has been collected, I would formulate a plan of action using all available resources available to me.

In most case where there is a intersection where alot of accidents are occurring, there is a reason for it such as speeding, stop light violations etc. I would coordinate with our motorcycle unit, down town bike patrol and other patrol squads to conduct strict enforcement of the laws in that intersection. Once the plan is implmented it would be monitored and evaluated for its effect and success. If the plan is working and reducing the number of accidents we will continue to monitor the intersection to insure compliance.

The next step would be to respond to the council member with our findingds and results of our activity. I would delegate some of the activities of this task to one of my sergeants and work with them to bring resolution to this problem.

I would also make my captain aware of the outcome and progress of this project. ::&A Lieutenant acts as a liason with the media on a regular basis. A lieutenant is responsible for manning the media phone and giving information to the media. A Lietenant needs to be aware and educated on the topics they are talking about. If a lieutenant does not know the answer to a question they need to tell the media source that they will find the answer out instead of trying to give an answer that is incomplete of off track.

Sometimes a media release is done in writing and may contain pictures of wanted subjects. The media, in Winston-Salem, is generally favorable to us as a department. However there are times when too much information is provided to them or not enough is provided to them. This has a tendency to create problems between the department and the media/public.

The information given also needs to be clear and concise. This will help prevent the bombardment of question and trickery sometimes displayed by the media. A lieutenant needs to be firm but fair to the media and know the bounderies inwhich he/she is able to operate.

Alot of times the lieutenant is the first ranking officer the media is going to come in contact with. The first impression is very important when dealing with the media and the public.:: 0&3&0&redbar.jpg&0&/0..the key responsibilities for the position of lieutenant are to supervise subordinate employees and act as the on duty field commander during their tour of duty. a lieutenant also manages and supervises a work group of employees that genaerally consists of several sergeants, corporals and officers. by managing these work groups the lieutenant is responsible for ensuring that the chainm of command is informed of ongoings during their tour and pertinent information that may affect the operations of the department. a lieutenant also acts as a media relations officer by providing the media with statements in regards to recent crimes and/or other public service/safety items that the public may need to be made aware of.

a lieutenant is also called on to review internal packages and insure that policies and laws are followed by his subordinates. while acting as a lieutenant in fsb he will have the job of taking and referring complaints to psd while they are closed.

a lieutenant may also be put in charge of projects on a regular basis. parts of these projects usually require research, formulation of plans, manpower allocations, community involvement, costs, involvement of other agencies, implementatiton of the plan, and veview.

a lieutenant also needs to insure that the intergrity of the department is upheld. this is not only within his personal life but to act as a role model for his subordinates and others within the department. this position carries alot of responsibility and can have a great affect on the overall operation of the department. this is done by working with the community and interacting with them in the community. this is done by positive involvement. a good example of this is community meetings and projects within ther communtiy. building partnerships also makes our job easier and allows us to plug into other resources within the community.
/0..the first thing i would do to address this complaint is to isolate the specific problem and gather information about what is going on at this intersection and the surrounding area.

i would do this by collecting data pertinent to the number of accidents at this location and to similar intersections in the area. once all the information has been collected, i would formulate a plan of action using all available resources available to me.

in most case where there is a intersection where alot of accidents are occurring, there is a reason for it such as speeding, stop light violations etc. i would coordinate with our motorcycle unit, down town bike patrol and other patrol squads to conduct strict enforcement of the laws in that intersection. once the plan is implmented it would be monitored and evaluated for its effect and success. if the plan is working and reducing the number of accidents we will continue to monitor the intersection to insure compliance.

the next step would be to respond to the council member with our findingds and results of our activity. i would delegate some of the activities of this task to one of my sergeants and work with them to bring resolution to this problem.

i would also make my captain aware of the outcome and progress of this project. /0..a lieutenant acts as a liason with the media on a regular basis. a lieutenant is responsible for manning the media phone and giving information to the media. a lietenant needs to be aware and educated on the topics they are talking about. if a lieutenant does not know the answer to a question they need to tell the media source that they will find the answer out instead of trying to give an answer that is incomplete of off track.

sometimes a media release is done in writing and may contain pictures of wanted subjects. the media, in winston-salem, is generally favorable to us as a department. however there are times when too much information is provided to them or not enough is provided to them. this has a tendency to create problems between the department and the media/public.

the information given also needs to be clear and concise. this will help prevent the bombardment of question and trickery sometimes displayed by the media. a lieutenant needs to be firm but fair to the media and know the bounderies inwhich he/she is able to operate.

alot of times the lieutenant is the first ranking officer the media is going to come in contact with. the first impression is very important when dealing with the media and the public.
