&Supervise subordinates to ensure all policies and procedures of the Winston-Salem Police Department are followed. Assist in the development and guidance of subordinates. Constantly monitor day to day operations as the Field Commander. Respond to critical situations assuming command over the incident and seeing that policies and procedures are followed. Make a determination of man power allocations as needed for the incident. If necassary , make the determination as to the need and location of a command post, media and medical areas. Make adjustments as deemed necassary for personnel at the location and activate aditional resources, SET CID etc.

<BR>Address complaints, both enternal and external, and assure they are handle properly and professionally. Constantly evaluate employees, policy and procedure as to effectiveness and make suggestions to command staff of any issues that may need to be addressed. Always keep command staff advised of any important or critical events.

<BR> ::&I would research the area and the problem and review the past history of enforcement activity at this location. I would delegate personnel to canvass the area in question and get feedback and input from them, including but not limited to personnel from the downtown school. I would delegate personnel to monitor the area in question and get their feedback on the problem. Once the specific problem has been identified I would advise my chain of command what was discovered and develope a plan of action to address the specified problem. I would meet with the citizens in the area and advise them our plan of action and what are desired results are. I would contact the Center for Community Relations and determine if they have any resources that would be helpful in addressing the problem. I would activate the agreed upon action plan and constantly monitor the progress of the plan making any changes to the plan that may become necassary. After a specified period of time I would again evaluate the plan and theactions that were taken. Recontact persons in the involved area to see if our efforts have been effective. Advise my chain of command of our actions taken and our results so the Council members and media can be advised what we have done to corect the problem if a problem was identified. I would then set up a time to meet with affected persons in the area and evaluate the problem to ensure we are still doing all we can as a dpartment and resolving the issues brought up by the Council Member and the community. My chain of command would constantly be kept abreast of our progress. ::&The Lieutenants role in media relations is to provide the media with public information about crime in the city and important issues in the department. The Lieutenant is a liason between the department and the media and represents the department. It is important to keep the media informed and cooperate as much as possible with the media. The relationship between the police department and the media can form a partnership that can not only benefit the media and our community, but can also work in favor of the department. A good relationship with the media will promote favorable reporting on the department and afford the department the oportunity to utilize the media to assist us in various aspects.
