::&I would use the SARA problem solving model:

I would first SCAN which would intell physically viewing the intersection and any problems that I may be able to see on its face. I would assign someone to talk to people from the school and city hall to determine what type of informaton they could offer. I would also request that the sergeants who supervise in the area get input from their personnel as to what problems exist at that location.

Next, I would ANALYZE, which would include obtaining all traffic violation and crash investigation reports from the area and try to determine if there is some type violation occuring more frequently than others as this situation may possibly be related to the design of the intersection.

After reviewing all information available, I would RESPOND which would intell implementing the type of action that my previous information seeking and planning led me to believe is the best plan of action. This may include, directed patrol at that location in which all violators will be issued ciations or arrested, or this Response may include working with city yard to create an intersection that is safer because of lighting, design, blocked vision, etc.

Lastly, I would ASSESS the situation after all plans of action had been implemented to determine if the plan had worked or if more action need be taken. ::&A Lieutenant, in most cases is responsbile for media relations during each shift and is responsible for handling the media phone during regular shifts. The lieutenant is also responbile for designating a location for the media during major crime scene or incident investigations.
