&Finacial services, manufacturing, agriculture::Computer Operator Intermediate&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?14::Batch processing on distrubited systems using CA-Jobtrac&?xxx?1?2?3?4?xxx?6?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&Management found it to be cheaper to run on a clustered windows environment for one line of bussiness and a clustered Unix environment for the other line of business.::&Windows and Unix clusters::&The bank is run on the mainframe using Alltel/Fidelity information services products. Banks need the security that only the mainframe can offer and the robustness of the the banking applications that run on the mainframe. Only the mainframe can handle the amount of transactions in a day that a medium sized bank handles.::&Can not really be for sure, all atm transactions, debit card transactions, loans, teller transactions all happen on production CICS regions. On a typical day Production CICS normally handles around a million transactions with a majority of them being some type of customer initiated transaction.::&all most all internal business for the company is handled on PC servers. One Lpar is used strickly for backups and cross platform job scheduling. Payroll simply uses the mainframe to post the company payroll file to be sent to the federal reserve to be distrubited. Their is a accounts payable application that is used strickly for the banking group. ::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&Unknown::&The ability to do so much more than just batch processing. I believe mainframes and equipment should not be referred to as legacy systems. That word tends to make people think of the mainframe as old and antiquated when that is not true. It supports almost all of the newer programming languages, is a lot more secure than windows will ever be, hardware more reliable, size - my companys PC servers take up a lot more room then the mainframe and all of its equipment do, no longer is it the mainframe is big but the pc server cluster is big, electricity - all those pc servers need electricity, using that much electricity you will need a bigger UPS and generator when a majority it could be run on one mainframe with a second for redundancy, electricity cheaper, less space consumed, save money on smaller ups and generator.::&wish I could but my company is moving off the mainframe. Everything that is except the bank. Banks and mainframes always a good combination.::&Making the mainframe a reliable and secure product.
It has been Alltel or Fidelity now, that creates all the banking software the bank uses, that keeps them on the mainframe.
There is no other system that can support a bank like the alltel software running on a mainframe.::&I have heard of it. Sounds interesting but what I want to know is what about people like me who have gone through college, who has a family, bills and so on and wants to move into a system programmer job but cant. They didnt have the mainframe charter 9 years ago when I was in school. I cant afford to go back to school now nor do i have time and everyone wants experience, but all the experience I can get is in computer ops.::&FYI - I was going to cut and paste my sentences to spell check them and when I right click i get the message about this webpage being proprietary and so on. I can still cut and paste using windows keys : cntrl-c and cntrl-s
Just figured I would let you know.::
