A second major benefit is the toolset - the others can't compete with the wide array of automation/monitoring/management products.
Relability/Availablity/Serviceability is also a consideration. We've touted Sysplex for yonks, but had no nibbles. Just recently we may have heard that finally the RAS of Sysplex will be exploited, but I've heard that before so I'm not counting my chickens yet.

In total, I would estimate around 2-3 million individual end-user-driven transactions daily from all our mainframes. That's probably a low estimate.
The people served are basically the whole of Australia (21 million people) - even the kids use ATMs or internet banking these days.

Two of the 9 mainframes here have IFLs and ICFs (one of each on each box). Another five of the nine here have ICFs. We don't have any zAAPs or zIIPs yet - the latter may come into play when we understand them better.
