Also web drafts and credit card payments.&&::&::&We derive most of our revenue from the mainframe. We probably will be getting off the mainframe in the next 3-5 years (management thinks hopefully) and will be going to Oracle Database running on Unix server. ::&We have about 1,000 transactions. We have 1 mainframe running on flex-es mainframe. We bill customers for their utility bill. Customers then either mail in or come in to office to pay bill. We also have bank drafts, web bank draft, and credit card payments. We do our own inventory, and payroll on the mainframe. We do have a separate total mapping system using oracle that resides on unix server. We have a customer base of about 175000 customers. We are a monopoly for our county.::&We have 175,000 transactions per day running on the same mainframe. The payroll of 550 personnel is done in house. We bill customers for their utility - water gas electric garbage sewer outdoor lights. The 175,000 customers can see their bills online. All this processing of agreements, bad debts, bank drafts, meter readings, sets, removes, cutoffs is done on a 8 MIP machine. A surprising feat. We have just 5 programmers and 1 system programmer with response time of average less than .1 seconds. ::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&We do not do this ROI. The mainframe just serves the entire company. We have very little down time. We are down 1 hour per day for backups and 1 hour on weekends for setting up ceratin large files.::&The quick response time - less than .1 seconds. The quick setup of new programs and their easy way of confirming updates. The screens might still be green screens with no pictures but the small staff surely gets a lot of work done. We are a mean streak type of company. ::&We went to IVR and this telephone system has really helped out our telephone operators. Also using 8 MIP machine still keeps us with no IBM maintenance. We have had other utilities twice our size stating that they would love many of the programs that we have written and that are very well tailored to our system.::&VSE/ESA is a really quick operating system. VSAM response time is real good.::¬ familiar::&Actually flex-es and DELL server with swappable disk drives has been the main thing that has crossed our desks. We have had a couple of times the disks have failed and the system keeps right on going. We took out the disabled disk, reconfigured, and everything is fine again with no down time.::&?0?1?2::rashley@hsvutil.org&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?7?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx?xxx::&&&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?12::we derive most of our revenue from the mainframe. we probably will be getting off the mainframe in the next 3-5 years (management thinks hopefully) and will be going to oracle database running on unix server.&?xxx?xxx?2?3?4?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?7?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?1?xxx?xxx?xxx::&::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?6::&?0?xxx?xxx?3?4?5?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2:: Not Scored by Definition
