&Financial services.::Lead Systems Programmer&&&N/A::&N/A::&We process about 2 million transactions per day through our CICS/DB2 systems running on z/OS on a z890 class machine. Could probably be accomplished on some other platform, but the cost and performance would not be acceptable (to say nothing of the security issues that would be inherent).::&Approximately 2 million (online) transactions daily on one z890 machine. Primarily consists of consumer loan applications, inquiries, updates, insurance applications, etc. Additionally, we have all the related documents stored on the mainframe in a content mgmt system (Mobius), accessible through a Web interface. We have approximately 1500 branches that are being serviced by the mainframe systems.::&Internally, we have approx. 8000 employees being serviced by the typical applications, ie., payroll, accounting apps. (A/R, A/P, etc.). Approx. 1/2 million (online) transactions daily support this activity. Also, a large portion of the internal usage of resources supports the marketing dept. for their use of an internal data warehouse application running on DB2.::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::Not currently using an IFL or zAAP processor. The split between internal and external services is probably about 60/40 (internal/external) in terms of resources consumed, with about 80% of resources used for internal services supporting the data warehousing work.&Not sure there is any other than a general recognition by mgmt that we couldnt do what we do (as a company) without the mainframe. The biggest single factor contributing to its perceived value to the company is the successfullness of our DR efforts with the mainframe compared to other platforms the company is using.::&Security, mostly. There just isnt anything else as secure as a mainframe today. When an application absolutely has to have the highest level of security available for its data store, nothing else compares.::&About 4 years ago, the company began storing huge amounts of paper documents (scanning them) to be stored in a secure environment on the mainframe with online access provided to those documents from a browser based app. Company has saved significant dollars by not having to continue to find space to house all the paper documents that the business typically collects for each application for a loan.::&Probably in recent times, it would be the introduction of the zSeries 64-bit architecture, allowing us to continue to expand our DB2 databases for the data warehousing expansion (that application has grown by over 100% in the past two years alone). Additionally, the document imaging application has increased its storage requirements over 2800% in the same time frame.::&Somewhat familiar -- Ive seen it. In my view, yes, they are fulfilling it, at least better from a business perspective than anyone else out there.::&With the increased data-intensive storage requirements that we have been and continue to have to deal with as an organization, the mainframe is the only platform available that can continue to provide the security, manageability, and performance required when dealing with the volumes of transactions and data that we have to deal with as a company.::&?0?1?2::mpenhorwood@agfinance.com&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx?xxx::&&&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?4?xxx?xxx?7?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?1?xxx?3?4?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?3?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?7?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?14?15?xxx?17?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?2?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?3?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?3?xxx::&not currently using an ifl or zaap processor. the split between internal and external services is probably about 60/40 (internal/external) in terms of resources consumed, with about 80% of resources used for internal services supporting the data warehousing work.::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?xxx?xxx?xxx?3::&&?xxx?1?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx::&?0?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx?xxx
